Tavi & Kitai certainly engaged enough times..... is it possible? Would Tavi forego his duty to the realm to not pass on the royal bloodline? hmmmmmmm

Any Marat with -any- Aleran...probably not.    But Kitai's bonding and part-human characteristics make Tavi+Kitai plausible.

Interesting.... what would a hybrid Marat/Aleran be like, what would they be able to do? A descendant of the royal bloodline would be able to weild powerful furries, yet have all the advantages of the Marat? What would their Chala be?

No idea.

Actually, I could see a scenario where their offspring might lose the ability to bond any chala other than Aleran or Marat.

Jim stated that Human and Marat genetics are fairly close, so there is no reason any Marat/Human connection could result in children.
See here: http://twitter.com/longshotauthor/status/5182792536

For those who like to take it extremely serious, the offspring would probably be itself infertile, like mules are.

For anyone (including myself) who likes to think in terms of story, the issue gets a lot easier. Should there be children? Yes. Ergo there can and will be children.

Also the issue has been discussed before. At length. :-) See this thread: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,11694.0.html

It's commonly accepted that in SciFi/Fantasy settings with many races, that most if not all can interbreed.

I'd argue that if narrativium demands, an Aleran could interbreed with a Marat, Iceman or Cane. Possibly a Vord, though that one is a bit more questionable.

I think no.   The difference races were at war at one time or another for a long time now.  Rapes happen during war.  Even without rapes, soldiers always leave behind children in other countries.  You would think there will be some surviving mixed children somewhere.

I don't think the Marat raped their captured as much as eat them... And I don't think any Aleran would take a Marat alive.... (I could be wrong).

I will Answer this only because you seem to be serious, however it is IN THE BOOK Well defined.

a Chala is the Marat word for Totum. like Walker is Deroga's Chala

And it seems to be reverse-applicable as well.  Tavi also calls Kitai his Chala because he also receives some cross-over characteristics from her (night vision and heightened senses).

Could they reproduce? most probably. Gaius even mentions the fact in Cursor's Fury, that since neither of them have furies to prevent it, a child could come into the picture. As for the two of them mating, I wouldn't say that they have a ton, because in the same convo, Tavi says that they only do other stuff... that ISN'T intercourse... though that could well have changed in the three or four years since that convo. But I agree that scientifically the child would be infertile.
