Mr. Butcher and fans,
Both my son and myself have enjoyed your Harry Dresden novels immensely. We are however, disappointed in the ScFi tv series so far. Your novels are vibrant, witty , action packed and explore many ethical conflicts concerning the use of power and personal responsibility. The TV series to date has been rather, bland, 'safe' in the issues it tackles and has exhibited little of your novels wit and charm, the absence of many of the novels' characters,i.e; Billy and the werewolves, to name just some contribute to the series seeming 'emptiness'.
The Harry Dresden universe is varied, character rich and action packed, hopefully, we will see some of these qualities in future episodes (post episode 4) in the future. The TV series does not do your works justice.
We look forward to the release of "White Knight" this spring and improvement in the content and nature of the TV series.
We remain fans.

*cough*  This is Storm Front-era Harry.  Of course we're missing a lot of characters.  This is only the first season.

Uh, yeah...

Each episode of the TV series is equivalent to a chapter or two, maybe three at a stretch, of the books.

Want to check out the first few chapters of Storm Front, see how much we'd learnt by then? Not an awful lot: the pacing is totally different when you have a bunch of chapters on paper to having to keep your viewers' attention fully occupied for 43 minutes.

Wait until we have a season in the bag: that would be very roughly equivalent to a book. Then you'll see how the two compare in richness and variety.

I love that. As if saying it's "Storm Front era Harry" makes all the short comings okay. Oh, well if it's Strom Front era Harry then I guess the lack of whit and charm is a-okay.

Why on Earth do people insist on complaining about things "missing" in episode 4? This isn't some Fanfic like the X-Men movies done to show as many characters as they can reasonably squeeze into a two-hour block. This is a TV show which, if it's going to last any length of time, has to pace itself in terms of the types of things they do.

Yes, they could make Harry a bit more witty and sarcastic. Yes, they could have him blow more stuff up. But do you REALLY want to see them introduce every important book character/spell/talisman in the first four 44-minute episodes? That wouldn't be a TV show, that'd be a meet-and-greet. Have some patience, really.

Also, I'll grant that it's not as good as the books. Of COURSE it's not as good as the books! The books are effing fantastic! The TV show has some enormous shoes to fill, and there's no way any show can come close to that level of awesome in the first four episodes. You might as well complain that The Ten Commandments wasn't as spiritually fulfilling as the Bible.

As Jim has said, quote, "over and effing over," the TV show is not the same as the books and should not be compared to them. Taken as their own, independent entity, the TV show has been quite entertaining. It's off to a pleasing start, and I predict all the nay-sayers will be whistling a different tune by the end of this season. Just give it time.

As do I.  In some shots, he looks rather like a very young Sean Connery.  Anyone else see that?

I'll say again, I really like the show.  The show is different from the books, and once you let go of the "...but...! but...!  but...!..." moments, you might enjoy it too.  Or not.  It's OK either way.   Smiley

The show is just another view of the universe as crafted by Jim, while they have a lot of things in common, it is unrealistic to look for a literal interpretation of the books.  Besides, while we might enjoy a literal translation, it would be a chore to get the rest of the viewing public to sit still long enough to get them interested/keep them watching.  Let the TV show people do there job and trust them to do it right *no paycheck in screwing it up now is there?*.
