The signing was huge!  I've never seen so many people try to cram into such a small space.  We got there about a half an hour early, and couldn't even get into the doorway to listen in.

For those not in the know, the space where Jim gave his talk used to be a bakery outlet. That has nothing to do with how warm it got in that space on Friday night.

Before his talk he got a ton of signing done for MG, which is why he was wearing the wrist brace during the talk itself. There was talk in the store itself about getting the space next door wired for events like this.

The sheer size of the event led me to suggest holding Jim Cons. Jim then told me about a Butcher Con a friend had tried putting together. The name was what killed it.

The event was bigger than Jim expected, bigger than Mysterious Galaxy expected. Fortunately I don't think Jim is going to suffer permanent damage to his fingers or wrist.

Jim,

I enjoyed meeting you at MG the other night. To remind you, I'm the one who told you about Greg van Eekhout's upcoming Osteomancer trilogy. Greg's two current works are Norse Code and Kid Vs Squid. Norse Code is the book I couldn't remember at the time.

Looking forward to the current Codex Alera book to be released in paperback, for I can't afford hardback these days. And here's hoping your events subsequent to San Diego were no where near as busy as SD.

The temperature probably had more to do with the fire-code-busting number of people crammed into that room.  It was craziness.

Nobody expected it. They expected something like it, but not as big as it got. And not a comfy chair in sight.
