Sadly, no... thanks to the networks/movie studios, you can NOT currently burn shows onto disc to be viewed on normal players. However, I've read that certain laws/contracts regarding this situations are soon to be changing and we may be gaining this ability shortly.

Now, do you mean we can't legally,, or that it simply cannot be done? Those are two entirely different scenarios.

I'm 99.9% sure that Apple announced they were releasing a little machine that would stream your Itunes stuff to your TV, I.E. Videos and music. I think it was unveiled at the same time the iPhone was, so its probably not yet on the market. Something to look forward to, if the price was reasonable I wouldn't mind doing that myself.

Looks like the intro model is going to be $299 with built-in hard drive, so you can either stream the movies to the device or you can fill the drive up with movies/music and take it with you to (wherever).

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't a network executive about to eat your favorite TV show..

If you have a Tivo you can just download the Tivo desktop software and copy them over. However you need the Tivo account code and they copy over in a custom Tivo format. I'm sure there are converters out there, it just wouldn't be legal to convert them.

I am copying all the shows to DVD but retaining the Tivo format to stay legal and stuff.

So far, mine are still on my DVR. Not sure about those "upconvert dvd recorders" and whether I can hook one up and dump the eps onto there.... although they'd be with the commercials....

I don't have cable access, nor a DSL connection, so I have someone torrent the episodes for me. They're not HD quality (unless you are looking for HD) so they're not all that great on the PC, but it makes my day when I can see Harry do his thing. (And also Bob's humor and pervertedness in full force.) This isn't legal either, but sometimes (like with canceled shows that air on the net, like FOX's Vanished) there's no other way to view shows if you're outside the US.

I know someone's gonna come and beat me up for suggesting torrenting the episodes. *cringes*

Since I can't watch live anyway (2 year old running around who needs attention), I usually watch as an avi file on my Portable Media Player (an Archos 604).  I Tivo the episodes on my DirecTV receiver, extract off the Tivo to my PC, edit the commercials out and convert to avi.  Its then ready to view at my leisure on my PMP or even through that back to the TV.  Its so much nicer not having to worry even about fast forwarding through the commercials.  The episodes flow so much better.

But no, I don't share the files through P2P or anything like that...
