Is there anyone else that thinks that this sidewalk door (with cheap logo!) to Harry's house is just way too "Hollywood"?
I really enjoyed the dungeons feel of his place in the books, and the fact that he had an office in some other area of town.
They should get back on track with the 'lab' way below ground, (one level below the basement) and also the interference that magic has on technology in Harry's area.  The house and anywhere that he interacts with modern appliances, the phone, the fridge,(ice box) Murphy's computer, etc. etc. I think that they should have stuck with the 'Bug' The soft top on the Jeep is not very protective, as if the 'Bug Top' would keep most daemon's out.
Just some personal observations, Johnnie.  Huh

Harry Dresden vs. Harry Potter Who would win?

Maybe Harry's house and office were combined to save on the set budget. That way, you only have to build one big set instead of two or three separate sets. Probably same reasoning is why the Lab is not in the basement but on the same level with a solidly built wooden(?) door that's magically concealed so the mundane can't find it without it being pointed out to them.

Maybe Harry's interference problem with appliances isn't as strong as it'll be later.... (just a guess) He can channel it with a bit of will to have it affect electronics.

Not to mention that it saves Harry rent money. Smiley

It's been previously stated that Harry's effect on technology is weaker than it is in the books, and he can control it. But we're to expect it to flare up in moments of stress/emotionality (if the latter is a word), or when Harry's casting.

As for the other comments, I doubt anything's going to change at this point. Most if not all of the season has already been filmed... Smiley

I guess my major problem (don't go there pal!) is that I can visualize VERY clearly, what is printed in the books. (As if it matters, I dream with all five senses active! Cool,EH?)
I could almost hear the crunch of gravel as Harry walked from the 'Bug' to the stairs leading down to his home.
I guess I will have to come to terms with the changes, and re-read the books with the new characters visually replacing what I had envisioned on my first read.
WooHoo!!!  A good reason   to go back to "Storm Front" and start again!
I still think that they could have done a better job of casting 'Murphy' (short, blond, grumpy and nasty! with a dash of HOT BABE thrown in.)
As always, I'm living in my own little world, Johnnie.

i've had very fuzzy feelings toward the show so far (the warm kind, like slippers, not the confused kind).  but i won't go out of my way to defend it to great lovers of the books (about which "fuzzy" would be a grevieous understatement of my feelings).

Harry's home looks like somewhere i'd like to live.  which doesn't jive with the books, but is much nicer to look at on my tv and is vastly better for entertaining clientelle (and vampire molls).  it looks like an eccentric bachelor pad to me - some of the walls clearly need repainting, there's what amounts to occult geek-sign on the walls, and some masculine furniture.  it's pretty nice, but it could be in the tv series that Harry is better paid and has more regular gigs than book-Harry.

Have to agree with you there.
I guess it's just one of those things we have to live with. As you said, TV!Harry is better paid than book!Harry (at least 1000 dollars per job vs 50 dollars an hour plus expenses)

Another thought would be that on the show he doesn't have this massive problem with technology. From what I made of it, he can control is way better than in the books. So why not have him a "functional" kitchen, heating...   I guess it'd take some more exposition on the show as to why it's always cold at the place etc.
Also... it might be easier to shoot at. I'm no expert but I guess it's pretty tricky to shoot at a place only lit by a fire and the occasional candle.

I like the place. It's... cozy. A little messy around the edge but I like all the stuff cluttered everywhere. That is pretty Harry-like for me Cheesy

But that's just me then Wink

While I like Harry's office and apartment in the books, it just makes it easier for TV if he lives and works in the same place, there is no need to waste time on an establishing shot every time he changes locations, plus the windows allow for better lighting from a production standpoint.  Shooting everything by candlelight gets old quickly.

I had gotten the idea that TVHarry is younger than even the one we meet in Storm Front.  Which means he may be less powerful and practiced.  Which may be why he doesn't effect technology as much.  With less power, it is more controllable.  When he gains more power, he may start to be in trouble.  Just a thought.
